A postdoctoral position is available at the Department of Microbiology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Applications are invited for a 3-year postdoctoral research position. The researcher will analyse metagenomic, metatranscriptomic, genomic and amplicon datasets derived from microbial communities of deep sea samples (sediments, corals, sponges and water). In addition, the researcher will work with datasets derived from experiments carried out in a “deep sea simulator”, The aim is to survey and characterise the diversity and function of microbiomes associated with deep sea organisms and explore how environmental impacts can affect these metaorganisms. The expected outcome of the work define new metabolisms and interactions as well as the development of deep sea probiotics. The post doc will be supervised by Prof. Raquel Peixoto (UFRJ) and Prof. Torsten Thomas (UNSW / Australia).
